I-Jobs? I-Joke

Or I-rony, perhaps.

What could be a better function of government than to confiscate tax money from some individuals, and give invest that money with political cronies in worthy projects.

Our last governor seemed to think that putting up a bunch of signs throughout the state to advertise his using state money to "stimulate" the economy was a great idea. Especially when state funds were used to put up signs with his name on it. Free campaign signs and it costs the state to take them down. (The Democrats in the statehouse are currently arguing that taking these signs down would cost the state money we can't afford. Who would have thought they were fiscal conservative?)

I found one such sign last week in Belle Plaine. Take a look and see if you can see what I see.

I appreciate the slogan "Building a 21st Century infrastructure and creating jobs without raising taxes" hogwash.

Do you see what I see? Or rather not see?

The empty lot behind a sign with the word Facade.

This aptly describes the whole I-Jobs fiasco. The sign is more important than the project. But on the other hand the sign is true.

Thanks, Chester for spending $1.5 million dollars of our tax money without raising taxes. Putting our state in a hole that will take years to dig out of.

Thanks for the laugh, too. But I don't think I got my money's worth out of it.

Gun amnesty advice

If you're going to have a gun amnesty it probably isn't a good idea to tell people it's okay to transport firearms without securing them and making sure they are unloaded:
Omaha police on Tuesday announced details of a firearms "amnesty day," when people can turn in guns with no questions asked and no legal repercussions.

The event will take place Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 5318 S. 30th St.

Police said a second gun amnesty day is planned for July 10 at a north Omaha location yet to be determined.

The amnesty day is intended to replace gun buy-back events held in previous years at which the Police Department paid people for turning in firearms.

Police hope the amnesty day will encourage those looking to get rid of firearms to turn them in, allowing them to be disposed of safely.

It is not necessary that the guns be unloaded, officials said. People bringing in a gun they are unable to unload or are uncertain about are asked to tell the staff before removing the weapon from the vehicle. [emphasis mine]

No questions asked on gun amnesty day
If one is too afraid or not knowledgeable enough about firearms, why not just report the guns to the police so the could come by the house and pick them up? Why risk an accidental discharge in a public setting caused by handling a weapon they are unfamiliar with?

The Omaha police department must be out of money (as well as out of ideas) since they are too cheap to fork over at least a $20 Target gift card.

June 12th is the same day of the Iowa DNR auction in Des Moines. It's ironic that guns will be turned in to the police at the same time confiscated firearms will be auctioned off to the public.

Irony in Massachusetts

When Ted Kennedy pushed Massachusetts lawmakers to replace appointing a successor to the Senate with this special election, do you think he envisioned that his replacement would be a Republican?

Too bad, Ted.

Hopefully Brown will do right on issues I care about. But if he stays in DC too long, he'll end up like the rest.

The Brady's were right

The argument that by brandishing a gun, it will only be turned against you, is often repeated.

Well, the Brady's et. al. were right.

Victim turns tables, and gun, on would-be robber
The victim of a would-be robber turned the tables on him and shot him twice with his own gun.

County police say it happened around 8:30 Sunday night on West Avenue in Holloway Terrace. They say 17-year-old Diamere Brady of Wilmington used a handgun to try to rob a 21-year-old man. The 21-year-old was able to get the gun away from the teen and shoot him twice during a struggle.

The 21-year-old turned the gun over to police, who moments later got a report of a teen being shot. Brady underwent emergency surgery at Christiana Hospital. He will be charged with attempted robbery and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.
I don't think that is what they meant, though. Bonus points for the criminal's name of Brady.

Irony: Fire Chief's business destroyed by fire

Sorry, but this lit up the Irony Alert: Fire chief’s Clermont business goes up in flames
Wiedenhoff knew immediately that it was his repair business, which sits just 300 feet from his house. He ran out the door and jumped in his pickup to go to the fire station. It wasn’t until he was getting his gear that he realized he hadn’t put on any shoes.
I don't intend this to be mean and I don't wish anyone to lose their business. I'm glad no one was hurt and it looks like the guys did their job to keep the fire from spreading.
