In the heart of the Socialist Republic of Johnson county (Iowa City) Violent crime up 24 percent in Iowa City.

Johnson county is almost impossible to get a permit in our may issue state. (The whole permit is a separate issue). Although I was told it's getting better by one of their reps last weekend.
Despite the numbers, Bailey said, Iowa City is a safe place.

Iowa City reported 3.8 violent crimes per 1,000 residents in 2008. That was up 0.5 percent from the year before but is below the national average of 4.5 per 1,000.

“It’s a safe community. It continues to be a safe community,” Bailey said, “and naturally, we’ll address these issues and endeavor to make our statistics next year look better.”
Really?
